Of course! We are open Monday – Saturday 10:30am-6pm. Come in and speak with our friendly staff about what type of cake creation you want for your special event. The shop is full of all kinds of cakes to get your creativity kicking. So come on down to 8302-A Melrose Ave, Los Angeles 90069. (Near the corner of Sweetzer Ave.)
We do not sell our merchandise at the bakery. Merchandise is available for purchase online via credit card.
The cake making process starts with you requesting a price quote. Simply click on Order A Cake, select Request A Price Quote from the drop down menu, and then fill out as many of the fields as possible with your event details and creative cake vision. The more info you can provide, the better we can price your cake! You will receive an email from us within two business days with an estimate. Once you have indicated that want to move forward with the order, we will then send you a contract and payment form or ask to schedule a design appointment. Design/Tasting appointments are held for most, but not all, cake orders. This meeting is an opportunity for you to sit down with a decorator, design the cake and have lots of fun!
During your design appointment, we will provide you with a cake sketch, final contract/pricing for the order, and a taster box of six cake samples. Your appointment should take about 45 minutes. Be sure to bring any visual references (pictures, objects, swatches, etc..) that you think will aid in the design and construction of the cake. Additionally, please come prepared with as much event info as possible, including the setup schedule, important contacts and any relevant delivery conditions. At the end of the appointment we will sign the cake contract with you and accept the fifty percent deposit. Should you need additional time to decide on the cake or arrange for payment, we will gladly hold your event date on our production calendar for up to five business days. See our Payment Policy for more details.
Once you have placed the order, we will continue to work with you on collecting all of the details needed to make and deliver your awesome cake. Come two weeks before your event date, we will process the final payment and collect any outstanding delivery info and/or design references. The day of your event we will deliver the cake approximately two hours before the event start time. Our cakes come complete with a diagram explaining how the cake is constructed and showing where the different flavors are located. Once the cake is setup and looking spectacular all of your family and friends will stand in utter shock and disbelief before erupting into tear-filled cheers of excitement. You will cut the cake, eat our manifestation of pure joy, and everyone will live happily ever after.
All of our cakes are individually priced based on the complexity of their design. Given that our cakes are completely custom made, we do not have a standardized pricing list.
Wedding and tiered cakes start at $7 a serving. We find that most of our clients choose designs that start at about $15 per serving. There is a 50-serving minimum on wedding and tiered cakes.
3D, sculptural cakes start at $1000.
We are happy to work within your event budget and encourage you to contact us for a design/tasting appointment so that we can discuss your cake order in person. We feel meeting with someone face-to-face and getting to know their ideas is the best way to plan a spectacular cake!
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your order; the remainder is due at least two weeks prior to your event. Your order is not confirmed until we have received your signed contract and 50% non-refundable deposit.
Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card (Visa, AmEx, or Mastercard, and Discover). Cake orders placed with less than two weeks notice require payment in full by credit card at the time of ordering. Deposits are non-refundable.
If you cancel your order, your balance payment is refundable provided Charm City Cakes is notified at least five (5) business days prior to the event. There is no payment refund on orders canceled within five (5) business days of the event.
Design/Tasting appointments are held for most, but not all, cake orders. There is a non-refundable $100 deposit required for appointments, payable by credit card. The $100 deposit will be deducted from the final cost of your cake.
Event dates are held for you through the date of your appointment or quote, and five (5) business days afterwards. If we do not receive a signed contract and 50% deposit within five (5) business days of your appointment or quote, your date may become unavailable.
Delivery is available for wedding cakes and cakes that require on-site assembly. We cannot guarantee that any particular staff member will deliver your cake.
We do not ship our cakes.
Delivery fees are calculated by distance traveled and are roughly $175 an hour. Anything longer than five hours is determined on a case-by-case basis.
While it is generally not a problem for clients to transport smaller cakes, self-transporting any cake is at your own risk. Charm City Cakes does not recommend clients self-transport 3D/sculptural cakes, cakes over 2 tiers tall, or any cake more than 3 hours and is not responsible for any damage that may occur to any client-transported cake once it has left our bakery.
We are not currently hiring any staff, interns, externs, unpaid grunts, or volunteers. However, if you are an artist living in the Los Angeles area and would like to be considered for a future internship, send us a resume with a few examples of your work to Hireme@charmcitycakes.com and we will keep it on file. While we are happy to look at your work, please note that we do not have time to respond to everyone individually.
We wish we could answer every question in stupendously personalized detail. However, due to the redonculous crazy number of emails we get, that’s simply not possible and we can’t answer questions about these topics.
Check out our blog for some of the most commonly asked cake questions – we try to answer as many as we can there.
